What are the best things to do in Coron in Palawan?

Coron is located in the northern part of Palawan, comprising several islands in the Calamianes group. It’s nestled between Busuanga Island in the north and the mainland of Palawan in the south. The main hub for tourism and transportation is the city of Coron on Busuanga Island. From here you have easy access to the best things to do in Coron, such as island hopping tours, diving tours and more.

1. Sleep in a tree house

The yogurts, ice creams and fruit sorbets are produced by themselves, which contributes to sustainable local food production. In the evening, the café turns into a wine bar with great live music, definitely worth a visit!

3. Island Hopping Tour in Coron

On your first day in Coron, you should definitely take one of the famous island hopping tours and discover the breathtaking landscape of Coron. Various tour providers offer you a wonderful day to the famous destinations in Coron. Visit Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, Barracuda Lacke, Banul Beach and unique diving spots in just one day.

Island hopping tours are one of the main best things to do in Coron, as most of the attractions are only accessible by boat. This is why the prices for the tours are pretty high. A shared group tour costs around 1500 PHP (30 USD) per person. The private tours cost between 6000 and 10,000 PHP (100 – 180 USD) per boat. Lunch and snorkeling equipment are included in most tours, but in many places you have to pay an environmental fee. Sometimes you can rent kayaks on the tours, which also have to be paid for extra.

4. Rent a kayak

To explore the secluded lagoons and crystal-clear waters even better, you should definitely rent a kayak. On most island hopping tours, you have the option of booking a kayak at the same time. For the ultimate experience, you can even rent a glass-bottom kayak.

5. Have Dinner at Hermanos Tapas Bar

One of our favorite restaurants in Coron Town was the Hermanos Tapas Bar, where we ate twice. Here you can eat incredibly tasty tapas inside or outside on a cozy outdoor terrace.

6. Visit nearby islands

A must on the list of best things to do in Coron is a visit to the nearby paradise-like islands, such as Malcapuya and Bulog Dos Island. There are many tour operators where you can book these tours online or on site.

Two hours away from Coron Town, Malcapuya Island awaits you with Coron’s most beautiful beach. Malcapuya is known for its powdery white beaches and shallow turquoise waters. You can swim in the refreshing water, soak up the sun and drink delicious coconuts.

Tip: Come here early and enjoy the idyllic tropical setting until it get’s too crowded.

Another hidden gem is Bulog Dos Island. The uninhabited little island invites you to relax on the beach and swim in the turquoise waters. The sandbank in front of the island even makes it possible to walk over to the island of the Two Seasons Resort at low tide.

Dicalabuan Island, better known as Banana Island, is another dream island near Coron. It is more developed than Malcapuya or Bulog Dos Island and also has a paradisiacal beach.

7. Rent a motorbike and discover the surroundings

Renting a motorbike in Coron is a adventurous way to explore the best things to do in the countryside. There are several rental shops in Coron Town, where you can rent motorbikes for 500 to 1000 PHP (approx. 10 to 18 USD), depending on the type of motorbike. It’s perfect to discover the island’s stunning landscape on your own. We recommend visiting Mt Tapyas and the Maquinit Hot Springs.

8. Hike up to Mt Tapyas – Viewpoint

Rising 210 meters above sea level, Mt Tapyas offers breathtaking panoramic views of Coron and its surrounding islands. To reach the top of the mountain you need to climb up 700 steps. While it can be climbed at any time of the day, we recommend to make the hike either early in the morning or in the late afternoon for a spectacular view during sunrise or sunset.

9. Relax in the Maquinit Hot Springs

After the exhausting hike to Mt Tapyas, relax and sooth your muscles in the hot springs. It’s on of the few saltwater hot springs in the world with temperatures ranging from 37 to 40 degrees. The Maquinit Hot springs are located 8 kilometers northeast of Coron Town and 30 minutes by motorbike. It’s the best thing to do at the end of a busy day.

Tip: Keep an eye out for wildlife, that inhabit the mangrove forests.

10. Have dinner at Altrove

Altrove is a popular dining location in Coron Town, known for its delicious wood-fired pizzas and cozy ambiente. From pasta and salads to grilled specialties and seafood, there’s something to satisfy every palate.

Tip: Altrove can get busy, especially during peak hours and tourist seasons, so it’s advisable to make reservations in advance, especially for large groups.

11. Discover Nightlife in Coron Town

Coron has many bars and clubs where you can enjoy the nightlife. Many establishments also offer live music or karaoke. There are also several rooftop bars with great views over Coron Town.

12. Linapacan Island Tour from Coron to El Nido

If the island hopping tours in Coron are not enough for you and you want to continue your trip in El Nido, the best thing to do is an island hopping tour from Coron to El Nido. There are many tour operators who offer you amazing 3 or 4-day tours.
